“Resettlement Fayre – HMP Peterborough.
06 February 2020
On Wednesday the Doorway team attended the resettlement fayre in the women’s side of HMP Peterborough. These events are organised so that residents of the prison can wander round and talk to services about what kind of support they can receive whilst in prison and what’s available upon release. Great to talk to other services there and to speak with lots of residents on the day.
Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week
03 February 2020
Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week is the UK’s national week to raise awareness of sexual abuse and violence and to provide an opportunity for any organisation or individual to engage in dialogue. The third annual national awareness week is scheduled to take place from the 3rd – 9th February 2020 across the UK. Organisers hope the nationwide week-long series of events, hosted by local organisations, will spread the message that any form of sexual abuse and sexual violence is unacceptable. The week aims to generate discussion among the general public, statutory bodies and third sector organisations about how sexual abuse and sexual violence is not OK, it aims to empower victims and send out a clear message that the UK collectively will be saying ‘It’s Not OK’.

Restorative Approaches training – 9th January
27 January 2020
"On 9th January, several of our staff from across The Magdalene Group attended the Restorative Approaches training delivered by the restorative approaches team in Norfolk County Council. Given that the core of our work at The Magdalene Group is building trusted relationships, this approach is invaluable to our work as it focuses on building, maintaining and repairing relationships. The ‘four choices window’ was particularly useful and suggests how you can balance expectation and support to build a trusted relationship. We also had long discussions about feelings leading into behaviours and shame/blame and how to lead restorative conversations. It was a great day, with very knowledgeable trainers and it’s always good to bounce ideas around with other professionals from different fields.” Abbie Haines

The team took part in a free workshop led by Mark Bishop, Wellbeing trainer, for the Norfolk & Waveney Wellbeing Service. The focus was building resilience, & reminded us all that - in order to look after others - we need to look after ourselves. It was a useful & thought-provoking session.

Teaching & Learning Day at City College Norwich
09 January 2020
Jess and Abbie attended City College Norwich earlier this month to share about the Rose Project and our Transitional service with some of their staff. We took along some of our resources, including a game that encourages young people to share facts and their opinions about sex and relationships, & the booklet we created last year for young people around identifying exploitation. It was also great to meet and reconnect with the other local services and organisations who were represented.
