See Something, Hear Something, Say Something

See Something, Hear Something, Say Something

Norfolk County Council's county-wide campaign encourages neighbours, extended family, those working to provide essential services and volunteers to look out for the county’s children, as the coronavirus lockdown continues. If you see something or hear something, then say something by calling 0344 800 8020. Thank you in advance for helping to safeguard Norfolk’s children.

“A picture of the Mary Magdalene rose, now in full bloom again, reminding me of The Magdalene Group's beautiful work and a spur to prayer every time we glimpse it”. Lovely picture, lovely words, from a former volunteer.

Smartphones, computers and the internet are now such a fundamental part of our lives, that it’s difficult to imagine how we’d function without them. All of our online accounts - from banking to social media - hold personal information that if shared could be used for criminal gain. With this in mind, children and young people should have the opportunity to explore why they should keep their personal information secure and the steps they can take to do so. This week's family activity sheet includes 8 fun and quick activities created by the National Cyber Security Centre to help families think about how they can be Cyber Aware. Congratulations & thank you.

"At their meeting last week the Trustees thanked Suzi for ten years’ leadership of The Magdalene Group. When she took on the role of Chief Executive, it was a completely different organisation and a struggling charity with only three trustees and a dwindling band of hardworking volunteers. There was no treasurer and she did not receive any pay for three months but in her typical way just quietly got on with the job, in spite of the fact that it was a complete change of working environment for her. Suzi was a definite answer to prayer and we are all so grateful for her passion and foresight. With Sara’s help she began to form a brilliant team and changes happened quickly- now the charity is unrecognisable but with the same core beliefs and values envisaged by the founders twenty five years ago. They would be so proud of all the achievements made and the fact that we are known throughout the county and beyond for Doorway Women's Services, the Rose Project, Jigsaw and EnRoute. Congratulations and very many thanks to Suzi for making The Magdalene Group what it is and also huge thanks to our wonderful staff who have worked unceasingly throughout Coronavirus, helping vulnerable women and young people and really making a difference to their lives in an especially difficult time." Georgina Holloway, Chair of Trustees

Whether it's for entertainment or for learning, children and young people can access vast quantities of online video content at the click of a button. But this can mean that they may see something that is intended for adults which might confuse or upset them. This new family activity sheet includes: • Conversation starters to help parents and carers talk to their child about what they like watching online • Actions they can take to help their child stay safe • A fun family task to encourage them to explore their favourite videos together Here's the link : https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/?utm_source=Thinkuknow&utm_campaign=8a69fbe32a-TUK_ONLINESAFETYATHOME_2020_07_28&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_0b54505554-8a69fbe32a-55217093

Presentation to Broadland Housing Association

Wednesday 8th July : “The Doorway Team were invited to do a presentation for Broadland Housing Association's staff training day – virtually, of course! We presented on our front-line services, our ethos and best practice around working with women experiencing multiple disadvantage. It was a lovely engaging group who didn’t shy away from case study conversation and interesting questions, so thanks for having us!” Abbie Haines
