Victims Commissioner’s third annual report

Dame Vera Baird QC has just published her Victims Commissioner's third annual report. She highlights the ever-growing court backlog for gender-based violence, continuing the wait for survivor justice. Dame Vera disagrees with the explanations for this backlog were a result of the pandemic, but instead due to a shortage of criminal barristers and part-time judges. The Report also reflected on the Draft Victims Bill which anticipates a substantial improvement for the victims of serious crime including Violence Against Women and Girls and Domestic and Sexual Abuse.
