Voluntary Sector Forum

Voluntary Sector Forum

I attended March’s Voluntary Sector Forum last week where there were presentations on the changes in Senior Management Structure in Children’s Services, the new operating model of FLOURISH, and the Health and Social Care Assembly for Norfolk and Waveney. In addition to these we also had Florence from Youth Strike 4 Climate Norwich present to us and run a workshop on climate change. The workshop included thinking about what our organisations do now to be eco-friendly and what more action we can, and should, take to prevent further impact on the climate. Following on from this workshop, The Magdalene Group would like to invite some young people from Youth Strike 4 Climate Norwich in to consult on our Environmental Sustainability Policy, later in the year, to ensure we are doing all that we can to fight climate change as an organisation. Serious Case Review Roadshow

"On 4th March I visited the Serious Case Review Roadshow on behalf of The Magdalene Group. The day focused on trying to provide flexible and creative theory and ways of working to really advocate for best practice in Norfolk. The Serious Case Review presented was an audit of 6 cases of non-accidental head injuries on children aged 3 months to 3 years. Sadly one of the children passed away due to this. Speakers from Public Health brought to light the impact that Adverse Childhood Experiences can have on us throughout our lifespan, creating vulnerable parents also, and the need for practitioners to be the one consistent person in a vulnerable person's life, in order to break the cycle and build resilience. We also learnt from Clinical Psychologists about the impact of trauma on ourselves as practitioners, and the need to forge strong bonds as a team to be able to contain our own emotions and be the best we can for our clients. Lastly, we learnt from the Family Nurse Partnership, the importance of building relationship-based practice with our clients, but also with other professionals, to achieve the multi-agency partnership working that our clients deserve. I hope I can feed this back into our organisation so that we can continue to provide the best service possible to the people that we work with and also play a key part in preventing incidents, that cause harm, from happening." Visit by Norwich Dignitaries

Visit by Norwich Dignitaries

"In Suzi’s absence, I was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor of Norwich, Councillor Vaughan Thomas with the Lady Mayoress, who was a volunteer with us some time ago. With them came the City Sheriff Dr. Marian Prinsley with Deputy consort Margaret (Poppy) Simons. While we drank coffee and ate delicious cake, the project managers of Doorway Women’s Services (Jonna ) and Young People’s Services (Deb) gave excellent presentations, ably assisted by Abbie. Our guests had many questions which also enabled Stacey and Donna to cover a wide range of subjects and an hour and a half passed incredibly quickly. The Mayor and Sheriff had several comments and ideas, took a lot of notes and were very impressed by everyone, confessing that they had no idea of the breadth of the work we do for women and young people in Norfolk. They asked to be kept in the loop on any further projects we have in mind." Georgina Holloway, Chair of Trustees
