Tricky Period

Homeless women and females on low incomes benefit from services set up to provide free sanitary products at Norwich’s main libraries. The Tricky Period project involves the libraries taking donations of products and handing them out to people who cannot afford them, with no questions asked about proof of eligibility. The Magdalene Group supports this initiative & can provide its service-users with any sanitary products they require.

Jess, one of our Rose team workers, attended training in Effective Participation at Child Protection Conferences (CPCs) yesterday, delivered by the Norfolk Safeguarding Children Partnership. The training was a combination of theoretical knowledge as well as practical application, and has left her feeling better equipped to contribute to CPCs in the future.”
Tuesday 26th November – The Domestic Abuse Change Coordinator Conference

"On Tuesday the Domestic Abuse Change Coordinators organised their final conference for all us champions to attend. It was a fantastic, educational, inspirational and emotional day and they had some amazing speakers. We heard from AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) who work nationally to support families around domestic homicide and the court processes; and from Respect and Change who run programmes for perpetrators and for male victims of domestic abuse. Similarly we heard from Tender who work with young people 8-25yrs using drama and the arts to talk about healthy relationships, consent and much more – it was interesting to see the similarities with ROSE in this important preventative work with young people. In the afternoon I attended a seminar on ‘stalking’ run by Norfolk Police. Julia Sandel spoke about risk identification and safety planning which was very informative and will help inform how us in Doorway are able to support clients going through this issue. Finally, the day ended on an incredibly inspiring and emotional speech from Claire Throssell who spoke about her lived experience of domestic abuse and the deaths of her sons through unsafe child contact – what a strong woman and she had the whole audience in tears and impassioned to take action!” Abbie Haines, Young Women's Outreach Worker

The most important thing we can do to support White Ribbon UK's work is to wear a white ribbon, and make the promise. Only by standing up and being counted can we hope to end male violence against women. White Ribbon UK was founded in 2005, and is part of the global movement to end male violence against women, working with men and boys to challenge those male cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence. Wear a white ribbon and make the promise.

Norfolk’s VCSE Conference 2019

"Earlier in the week Suzi and myself attended Norfolk’s annual Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) conference. This year’s theme was ‘Managing Change: Supporting your organisation to adapt and respond’. The day included keynote addresses from Karl Wilding, Chief Executive for the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), on change in the sector, Natalie Clarke (Managing Director) and Hannah Donald (Senior Manager) from Social Misfits Media who talked us through how to build a social media strategy, and an energizing presentation from Vicky Browning, Chief Executive of Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations (ACEVO), who spoke about leadership pressures in the third sector. The rest of the day was a variety of networking with other professionals and workshops which covered topics including cyber security, campaigning and influencing, and developing effective partnerships. Overall an excellent day with lots of interesting people and discussion (and amazing brownies at lunch). Top tip from the cyber security workshop: A password made up of 3 random words, a special character and a number, e.g. tableredjump&5, would take a computer 638 thousand years to crack!"
